• Food for Celebrations and Rewards During School

    This section applies to foods and beverages donated, offered, or provided to students on campus upon arrival, during the school day, or upon dismissal for rewards or celebrations. Our district encourages the use of non-food/beverage items for rewards and celebrations. If food/beverage items are provided, they must adhere to the following guidelines.

    • Food or beverage items donated, offered or provided to a school, classroom or individual(s) must be commercially packaged.
    • A list of ingredients must either be printed on each individual item or on the larger package they came in, which must accompany the items.
    • No homemade items.
    • Items cannot have added caffeine.
    • Items cannot contain nuts, as we are a nut-free district.
    • Items align with our district’s healthy snack standards and recommendations.

Elementary

  • In addition to those stated above, food/snacks brought onto our elementary campuses must follow these guidelines:

    • Snacks served do not exceed 200 calories per packaged item.
    • Schools shall limit celebrations that involve food during the school day to no more than one celebration per class per month.
    • Hosting celebrations after lunch is encouraged.

Secondary

  • In addition to the guidelines stated above, snacks served do not contain more than :

    • 250 calories per item/container
    • 35% of calories from fat
    • 35% of sugar by weight
    • 10% of calories from saturated fat
    • Zero trans-fat
    • Schools shall limit celebrations that involve food during the school day to no more than one celebration per class per grading period
