Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!

Hello LHS Families, Happy start to the new school year! We’re excited to welcome you and your students back for what promises to be a fantastic year at LHS.

    Monthly Updates
You will receive regular updates through my newsletter. These monthly communications will highlight key events, important information, and school news. Please take a moment to read through each newsletter to stay informed and engaged with what's happening at our school.

First Day of School - August 13
Our first day of school is August 13, and it will be a minimum day. Class schedules were emailed to students at their lvjusd.org accounts on August 9. Ensure your student checks their email and prints or downloads their schedule, as the link is valid for only 7 days. Students should also check their Schoology account for any schedule updates on Tuesday morning. Rest assured, student schedules were finalized in June, and any adjustments made afterward were to meet individual needs.

    PBIS Lessons and Behavior Expectations
Our school will continue to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), a proactive approach to establishing a school environment where all students can thrive. PBIS focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behavior through our Cowboy HEROES behavioral expectations , creating a supportive environment that helps students succeed both academically and socially. We believe that involving our community is key to our success, and we warmly invite any interested parents to join our PBIS team. Your insights and support would be invaluable as we work together to foster a positive and inclusive school culture. If you're interested in participating, please reach out to us for more information.

    Student Learning Objectives
Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) are specific, measurable goals set by educators to track and improve student learning over a certain period. They focus on student growth and achievement in a particular subject or skill area, guiding instruction and assessment practices. SLOs help ensure that teaching is aligned with desired learning outcomes, and they provide a clear framework for evaluating student progress and instructional effectiveness. Our SLO’s are:

    Traffic Reminders
Please be aware that traffic around the school can be quite congested during the first week. To accommodate the increased traffic, we recommend leaving a little earlier and driving safely.

    COVID-19 Protocols
Since the onset of COVID-19, our district has closely followed the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines. For the 2024-25 school year, CDPH has discontinued specific school-based COVID-19 guidance, now treating COVID-19 like other respiratory viruses such as the flu and RSV. For more details on managing respiratory illnesses, please visit the CDPH website and the CDC resources linked there. Students with higher health risks should continue to take extra precautions. Our Illness Exclusion Protocols are available on our website, outlining when students should stay home. We encourage you to keep your child home if they are unwell and return when they are improving or symptom-free. Please inform us if your child will be absent. Our district’s Illness Exclusion Protocols are available on our website and outline more severe and contagious symptoms that should keep a student home from school. While we know the importance of school attendance on student learning and achievement, students who are sick should stay home and return when symptoms are improving or have subsided. You know your child best; as an educational partner, we just ask that you inform your school site if and when your child will not be at school.

    Transportation Updates
LAVTA will resume service for many Wheels bus lines, providing essential transportation options for our students. To help you stay informed, we’ve attached a press release and promotional images about the “Try Transit to School” promotion. From August 8 through August 31, Tri-Valley middle and high school students can ride any Wheels bus for free, including weekends. This initiative introduces students to public transit and offers a safe and reliable commute option, reducing school traffic. No pass or student verification is required.

Please note that bus schedules can vary depending on the day of the week and special events. For updates, including modified schedules, please check online or contact Silvia Oliva at silvia.oliva@mvtransit.com and Cheryl Sheik at csheik@lavta.org.

Join us for our first home game against Castro Valley on Friday, September 6, as we pay tribute to Scott Baswell, our beloved paraeducator and defensive coordinator who passed away recently. This special black and white game will feature commemorative T-shirts and sunglasses, with all proceeds going directly to his two sons. You can also donate online. Let’s pack the stands in his honor! More details are available on the Scott Baswell Memorial Page of the LHS Boosters website:

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in creating a thriving learning environment for our students. Together, we can make this school year exceptional!

    Warm regards,
