East Avenue Middle School Wellness Center

  • Pending funding from the county, the Wellness Center is temporarily closed until further notice.

Mental health matters in 澳门最快开奖直播 and the district is committed to supporting the mental health needs of our students. At East Avenue Middle School, we recognize that academic success is closely linked to social and emotional wellness. The purpose of our Wellness Center is to provide a safe space for the establishment of mental health supports and the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) needed for all students to thrive.

The Wellness Center provides students a place where they can learn and practice regulating their emotions and then return to class ready to learn. At our school, when students visit the Wellness Center they will complete an online check-in form, complete a brief lesson, and have access to de-escalation materials, sensory items, art supplies, and resources.

Students do not need to request an appointment to use the Wellness Center, but they MUST get a pass from their teacher first. (A student dropping into the Wellness Center during passing periods or the first 15 minutes of class without a pass will be sent back to class.) Students are welcome to use the Wellness Center for up to 10 minutes during class (with a pass from their teacher) when they need a short break.

If needed, students can also request an appointment with the school counselor, Ms. Haley. Students should understand that the Wellness Center cannot always provide immediate access to the counselor for students in distress (crying, panicked, dysregulated, etc.). Requesting an appointment is the best way to meet with Ms. Haley.

The Wellness Center is a short-term, emotional, and mental health support. If a student is unable to return to class and re-engage in the learning environment, they may be sent home. If a student is in a crisis situation, they may report directly to the Wellness Center and/or contact an administrator or the school counselor. Crisis situations typically are defined by an immediate risk to self or others.
